Outbound tourism, both from China to abroad and vice versa, played a part in the EU-China summit that took place on November 21st in Beijing. The 16-page report, “EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation,†confirms the desire of the two sides to continue the strategies contained in the Joint Statement for cooperation on sustainable tourism signed in July. The biannual People-to-People dialogue – this is the official definition of talks concerning people exchanges – is one of the three pillars that underpins the cooperation between these countries, together with the annual High Level Strategic dialogue and the annual High Level Economic and Trade dialogue. In particular, the Agenda recommends to “set up a regular EU-China tourism dialogue and information exchange mechanism on respective initiatives and best practices in the development of sustainable tourism; facilitate exchange of information on the safety protection of tourists; promote tourist flows, including the development of common projects.†Since Chinese outbound tourism often passes through channels and agencies supervised by the authorities, official steps are necessary to boost business. Another related issue addressed by the Agenda is the launch of the 2013 EU-China Mobility and Migration Dialogue. It aims to “continue to explore ways of facilitating exchanges for EU and Chinese citizens, including mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports, while strengthening cooperation on illegal migration.†July’s Joint Statement, instead, set the parameters for finding and promoting developmental models of sustainable and responsible tourism. Forecasts for 2020 says that 100 million Chinese tourists could be on the move before that year and many of them will head towards Europe, not to mention the 70 direct, daily flights that already connect European and Chinese cities. Traffic between the EU and China has grown to six million passengers per year, three times the 2003 figure.

Candlewood Suites is an excellent location with cooking facilities which provides a great home base as you travel to various attractions in the area.
