China’s National Day “golden week” (1-7 October), together with the Spring festival, represents the longest holiday granted by the state. Basically there are just three official vacation days, but the practice is to rearrange work and production schedules in order to have at least seven consecutive days off. Introduced in 2000, National Day celebrates the proclamation of the People's Republic of China on October 1st, 1949. The explicit purpose of the holiday was to push the travel industry.
TOWARDS A LONGER TRAVEL SEASON - The two golden weeks – National Day and Spring Festival in February – represent the most intense period in both inbound and outbound trips. However, according to the travel intelligence unit Canadean, tourism trends reveal that people with medium-average net income and millennials are extending the travel season to most of the year, with the actual low season now limited to January, June-July and November.
