Starting on the 9th of April, COTTM 2014 will be the only fair in China dedicated to the Chinese outbound travel market. From its booth in the Exhibition Center in Beijing, Welcome Chinese will play its part in involving Chinese travel agents and agencies in order to promote Welcome Chinese-certified hotels in Western countries. “It mustn’t be forgotten,†points out Jacopo Sertoli, company’s CEO, “that not only hotels can be certified through Welcome Chinese; any tourism business willing to host Chinese travelers can join the program.†The 2013 edition of COTTM was attended by over 4,500 Chinese buyers. Experts agree that by 2020, the flow of Chinese citizens traveling abroad for work or on holiday will top the record high of 200 million. In 2013, Chinese travelers spent $102 billion. “Western countries need to intercept this flow to raise profits and create more jobs,†says Sertoli, “but this will be possible only by making an effort to understand and meet the cultural needs of this new type of visitor.†Although traditional, organized groups still attract the majority of Chinese tourists, “others, youngsters in particular, are booking flights and hotels on the web and planning their itineraries by themselves†just like Westerners are used to doing. Development of Chinese outbound tourism is officially supported by the government through the Outline for National Tourism and Leisure 2013-2020. Sertoli remarks: “I moved to China five years ago so I am used to seeing how the Chinese are in everyday life. But living here is not necessary in order to understand that at least some of this daily routine will be followed also when on holiday.†Furthermore, easier access to information, greater means of transportation and growing wealth are very likely to sharpen people’s desires and expectations. “We believe that more and more destinations will see Chinese visitors,†the CEO said, and it is not only about shopping. “Chinese like to shop, just like every other tourist in the world. Moreover, they show themselves to be capable of fully enjoying the pleasures of travel from all perspectives.†The COTTM event will be held in the New Hall of the National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing, from the 9th to the 11th of April.

Candlewood Suites is an excellent location with cooking facilities which provides a great home base as you travel to various attractions in the area.
