The European Travel Commission designated 2018 as the EU-China Year for Tourism, as announced by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission and Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, at the opening of the EU-China summit on 12 July 12th, 2016.
THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY - The EU-China Tourism Year is a great opportunity for the European tourism industry to explore the Chinese market, and to learn how to attract Chinese visitors and offer them the best possible experience. During that year an unprecedented level of attention will be paid to the growing importance of China as a source market, as well as to the changing preferences and behaviour patterns of Chinese visitors.
OUR ROLE - Welcome Chinese is the official partner in carrying out the Chinese events connected to this important bilateral agreement. ETC (European Travel Commission) endorses the Welcome Chinese Certification as the model to promote in the Chinese market, and all members of ECT will benefit from this opportunity with preferred membership.
NEXT STEPS - The initial meeting between a high level Chinese delegation and EU tourism stakeholders will take place in Beijing on October 26th, 2016 in the framework of the ETC Operations Group’s activities. ETC, ETOA and Welcome Chinese will unveil their detailed plans in the presence of the European authorities at a conference to be held at the London Barbican on November 3rd, 2016.
THE WBT PROJECT - On the occasion, plans for the World Bridge Tourism Project will be communicated. The latter is a major initiative - supported by the European Commission - that will take place the following year, in the framework of the EU–China Year of Tourism 2018. The project involves hosting 100 European tourism suppliers in May of 2017, who will meet with a similar number of Chinese outbound operators. This networking workshop will take place alongside ITB China in Shanghai. It will be followed by a similar event at the ETOA Global European Marketplace in November 2017, where 100 Chinese outbound operators will gather to talk to a select group of European suppliers.
